Apache Sound

Biography

Apache Sound is an allround regge soundsystem from The Hague area (The Netherlands). In early 2004, Mr Rough Apache, MC Nes One and selector Big Lion decided to start their own soundsystem. Inspired by many artists, sounds, and the reggae soundsystem movement, they initiated Apache Sound and promised to remain loyal to the red, gold and green sounds. The name ‘Apache Sound’ was coined by Nes One in the 90′s.

Apache Sound has specialized in presenting the diversity of styles within reggae music. Roots reggae, ragga, rub-a-dub, vintage, ska and dancehall tunes are mixed together according to the tradition of the Jamaican style sound. This all happens in a soundsystem setting: a Disc Jockey accompanied by a Microphone Chanter.

Over the years Apache Sound has performed with many celebrity reggae artists, as support act for artists such as Alpha Blondy, Gentleman, Julian Marley, Israel Vibration, Black Uhuru, Toots & the Maytals, Don Carlos, Michael Rose, The Wailers, Junior Kelly, Jah Mason, Dillinger, Sizzla, Eek A Mouse, Buju Banton, Beenie Man and many others…

Besides that, Apache Sound hosts The Official Dutch Open Reggae 45 Clash, a lively musical battle between international reggae soundsystems.

Towards the end of 2007 Apache Sound decided to give a few youngsters the opportunity to develop their talents. Selector Junior Don was the first DJ to be added to the team. After that, in 2008 MC Ras Ray was presented as supporting roots singer. DJ Sista Lisa joined the team in 2009. General FLG is Apache Sound’s newest member. Nes One is taking it easy, while the younger generation is carrying the music on and keeping the fire burning.

Nes One

Mc / Singer

MC Nes one was introduced to reggae music when he was 8 years old. He was inspired by his older brother, who was a radio DJ (DJ Massive Dread). At that time he listened to live dancehall tapes by King Stereo Mars Sound of Super Cat, Nicodemus and Tenor Saw. In 1980, at the age of 9, together with Rena Dread he brought a soundsystem to The Hague for the first time, Dr. Alimantado & the Freedom Sound. Together with Friggy Bonanza and Fresh Kid he initiated his own soundsystem called Panti Hi-Fi. Later on he became selector for Iba and Ros. Around 1989 he started practicing singing in his mother's shed, together with singer Langman. Nes One performed as MC and selector with with among others Just A Come Sound, Ragga Ragga Sound and Imperial Majesty Sound. In 1999 Nes One organized the Official Holland Soundclash in LVC in Leiden, which was the first event that focused on solely Dutch reggae soundsystems. Until 2003 he was Blakkstone Sound's regular MC, with who he organized the Unity Bashments. In 2004 Nes One and Big Lion started their own soundsystem, Apache Sound. Since 2008 Nes One has been working together with Ras Glen to give upcoming reggae singers a chance. He started his own backing band Nuff Vibez in 2009.

Sista Lisa

Selector

Lisa started spinning tunes by coincidence - she was asked to play at a party even before she ever touched a turntable. Being offered to play at more and more parties, she learned how to master the turntables. Together with German selector Rallemann Lisa played at reggae nights in The Hague regularly, before joining Apache Sound in 2009. Her speciality is 80's reggae and dancehall from the 80's till today. She hosts a monthly radio show on Den Haag FM where she plays all kinds of music.
